Victor Valdes and Andres Iniesta met in their first year at La Masia. Iniesta was 12 and Valdes was 14. Andres was the most miserably homesick child imaginable when he moved to Barcelona from Albacete - he missed his parents and he cried for most of his first year away from home. Valdes used to be very protective of Andres at La Masia since he had been there longer, would stand up for him at interviews and help him with his homesickness. Both entered Barca B and the first team at the same time, and they make it no secret that they are best friends.

And now, years later, you can still see the brotherhood between them when Valdes gave Andres parenting advice after the birth of his daughter Valeria or when Andres sticks up for Valdes after he loses his temper in games:

“I’ve been asked this question many times, but I always say the same thing. Víctor has an impressive look … for those who don’t know him. He’s a work of art, a magnificent and caring person like few others, but what happens is that you can’t judge anyone if you don’t know them, and sometimes people judge him without knowing him. For my part, I can only say that since we have known each other, and looking back through the years, he has never let me down.”
